Charlize Theron has officially announced the name of her character: Clea

Charlize Theron has officially announced the name of her character, Clea, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Charlize Theron Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

The character appears in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness' mid-credits scene, approaching Strange while he is out walking and telling him that his actions in the film have resulted in severe consequences. Then she does a Marty McFly on the good Doctor, convincing him to join her in her reality by calling him a chicken.

Today, Theron took to Twitter to announce her arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and reveal the name of her character. In the tweet, she just says, "Meet Clea."

Clea may be unfamiliar to anyone unfamiliar with Marvel Comics history. The sorceress is a creature of the Dark Dimension, which we first met in the first Doctor Strange film as the land of Dread Dormammu. Dormammu's niece, she is the daughter of Orini, the Dark Dimension's prince, and Umar, Dormammu's sister. She's been a student of Strange, a love interest for the Doctor, his wife/ex-wife, and even the Sorceror Supreme of her own universe in her long comic history.

Following the death of Stephen Strange, Clea is currently the Sorceror Supreme of Earth.

She's taken up the Eye of Agamotto and the Cloak of Levitation to protect our realm, thus the book is still called "Strange."

Clea's presence in the MCU suggests that the third film will spend more time in the Dark Dimension, as she tries to wrest control of her home from her uncle. Given that Strange's relationship with Rachel McAdams' Christine Palmer has been laid to rest, it also suggests that the two could be dating. Finally, her brief mention of reality intrusions strongly suggests that Secret Wars will be the next major MCU plot.

If you've seen Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, you may be curious about the ending or where the Illuminati might appear next. The ensemble also discussed dealing with filmmaker Sam Raimi, who delivered a film that may have pushed the PG-13 rating a little too far. If you've seen the current film, all you have to do now is wait for the impending Disney+ show.
