Mandalorian Season 4 Is Already In Development, Confirms Jon Favreau

Jon Favreau about Mandalorian season 4

The Star Wars Celebration has officially begun, with news from all throughout the galaxy far, far away reaching fans of all ages. Jon Favreau is among the many guests from the Star Wars universe, who have appeared in films, novels, and animation. While Favreau is best known for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he directed and starred as Happy Hogan, Tony Stark's grudging friend and assistant, he's also a legend in the Star Wars universe, writing, directing, and executive producing for a number of projects, including, which was the focus of today's Mando+ panel at Celebration.

Favreau and co-producer Dave Filoni are the current faces of Star Wars on Disney+, having worked on The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka as executive producers, writers, and directors in various capacities. The focus of today's panel was on the titular Mandalorian himself, with Pedro Pascal and his body doubles Lateef Crowder and Brendan Wayne in attendance.

The third season of The Mandalorian, which Favreau and Filoni previewed at both the Lucasfilm showcase and the Mando+ event on Thursday, is the next project on the horizon for Favreau.

The season will premiere on Disney+ in February 2023, though no exact date has been announced, and the footage revealed Katee Sackoff's return as Bo-Katan, who appears to have a grudge against Din Djarin (Pascal) for his possession of the Darksaber, which makes him the ruler of Mandalore, the Mandalorians' homeworld, which Bo-Katan believes is her birthright.

After today's conference, Collider was eager to chat with Favreau, who revealed how much of The Mandalorian is plotted in advance and whether the production team has a plan for Din and his tiny green offspring. Of course, fans all around the world are aware of the issues that will inevitably arise throughout the sequel trilogy, which appears to play at least a partial role in the future development of The Mandalorian:

"I believe Dave and I discussed this extensively. And, while it's fascinating to see how things progress and alter in subtle ways, we all know when the time period finishes, so we know where everything will end. We are aware that the First Order will appear. So there are things on the horizon that we are aware of, but they are 25 years away. We also know the tales that will emerge within the characters we're either inheriting or developing as a result of this. So, I'd say there's a lot of planning going on in broad strokes for how these narratives we've established will end, but we're doing it within the limits and parameters of what's already in canon."

More information about the new season is being withheld, but fans were given a first glimpse at Ahsoka, which included the reveal of Hera Syndulla, a fan favourite character from Star Wars: Rebels. Ahsoka is likewise set to launch in 2023, though no specific date has been set.
