Chris Hemsworth Wants to Be in the Sequel to Deadpool 3 for a Funny Reason

Chris Hemsworth

After more than a decade in the role, Chris Hemsworth is poised to start his next leading role as the God of Thunder in Thor: Love and Thunder. After Avengers: Endgame, he is currently one of the MCU's prominent characters with the longest run, and in Thor 4, he is ready to embark on what might be his funniest trip yet.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has a reputation for using humour throughout the past 14 years, and Thor himself has benefited from this reputation owing to his team-up flicks and 2017's Thor: Ragnarok, which is the hero's funniest solo film to date. And that's just for the characters who already exist in the MCU. This comes before another round of anticipated laughs in next year's threequels for the Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man.

Later on, Ryan Reynolds will introduce Wade Wilson, a beloved character and violent, fourth-wall-breaking mercenary, into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hemsworth, who is currently attempting to secure a role alongside the Merc with a Mouth, turns out to be one MCU veteran who could appear in that film.

Hemsworth Wants to Participate in Deadpool 3

Chris Hemsworth discussed his prolonged role as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in an interview with Ali Plumb of BBC 1 Radio. Hugh Jackman played Wolverine in Fox's X-Men movies for 17 years; when compared to Hemsworth's 11 years, Hemsworth acknowledged that he might think about continuing in the MCU as Thor to perhaps surpass that total. Jackman's record had previously been surpassed by Willem Dafoe, Tobey Maguire, and Patrick Stewart in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, respectively.

Plumb: "For eleven years, you have served as Thor. Just so you know, Hugh Jackman, who has been portraying a superhero figure for 16 years, is your competitor. Would you still be swinging Mjolnir or the Stormbreaker in six years to break that record?"

Mr. Hemsworth "I wasn't going to, but now that you've shown me that, you make a valid argument that it's only been six years. I've come a long way. It would be wasteful to turn around right now, therefore"

The two also made light of the fact that Hemsworth might possibly prevent Jackman from regaining the record by refusing to allow Jackman to reprise his role as Wolverine in Deadpool 3. It was because of this that the Thor actor suggested he try playing the God of Thunder in Deadpool 3 to see what would happen:

You've got to hope he doesn't make an appearance in Deadpool 3, because that simply..., said Plumb.

Mr. Hemsworth "Ah, so then, yeah, no... I'm not sure. To ensure that doesn't happen, I might make some calls."

Plumb: "That's a wise strategy, yes. I enjoy it.

Hemsworth: "I might instead cast myself as Deadpool. I believe that would be the offering; observe whether it is accepted. Yeah."

Hemsworth also talked about Natalie Portman's comeback as Jane Foster/The Mighty Thor, saying that this time around, she didn't require much assistance in becoming a hero. Hemsworth acknowledged that she was "amazing" and put a lot of effort into playing the part as realistically as possible, save from the occasional query about some of her stances: "I mean, she didn't need much instruction. She questioned me on occasion when we were approximately two months in about a particular attitude or thing. Since she had asked, I felt gratified and said, "Sure... you kind of do a little bit of this and..." She managed it all very well on her own, though, aside from that. She was amazing, put in a tonne of work, arrived in amazing shape, and forced us all to step up our game.

The God of Thunder Might Appear in Deadpool 3

There will undoubtedly be a long list of performers vying for a possible part in Deadpool's first MCU standalone film now that he is officially confirmed to join the MCU. Fans are eager to see which MCU regulars will finally engage with the friendly neighbourhood Pool-guy, but only Leslie Uggams' Blind Al has been confirmed to make a comeback, while other stars like Morena Baccarin are still awaiting word on their roles.

Reynolds was already tangentially connected to the Thor franchise in a few minutes of entertaining promotional footage when he appeared in 2021's Free Guy alongside Taika Waititi's Korg.

Hemsworth's justification for wanting to be a part of Deadpool 3 is amusing to hear, as he revealed an unfulfilled desire to surpass fellow Australian Hugh Jackman with his portrayal of Wolverine. But could Hemsworth actually include the God of Thunder in a Deadpool-focused movie? Thinking about that is undoubtedly entertaining.

The degree of humour that the character is known for would undoubtedly be present if one imagined Wade being split in half by Stormbreaker or thought back on his conversation with Korg after a fourth-wall break. Depending on what occurs in his fourth solo picture, Thor may very well be on fans' minds for a potential appearance when Deadpool 3 does move forward in production.

On July 8, Thor: Love and Thunder will hit theatres. The release date for Deadpool 3 has not yet been disclosed, and it is still in the early phases of pre-production.
