Deadpool 3 Screenwriters Tease Disney Is Allowing a Vulgar Sequel

Deadpool 3

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote Deadpool 3, explained how Marvel Studios is enabling them to preserve the Merc With a Mouth's vulgarity, which was a popular formula at 20th Century Fox. While details on the third Deadpool film have been few, fans recently learned that Shawn Levy, the filmmaker of Free Guy and The Adam Project, will reunite with Ryan Reynolds on the project. The presence of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick is also fresh knowledge, but they are no strangers to Deadpool, having written the scripts for the first two films. Because Disney is known for being a family-oriented firm, there has always been concern about how Deadpool's raunchiness would translate to the Mouse House. Reese and Wernick both confirmed that Disney has been helpful in this area.

Reese told Den of Geek, "Don't worry about it." "They've been quite helpful in this aspect. When it comes to a specific joke, if we cross a line, we might hear, 'Maybe not that joke,' at some time. But I believe they've been tremendously supportive of what we're doing, because we've been doing it separately for a long time, and I believe they've seen our success and had their own, even bigger success. So, fingers crossed, it'll be a match made in heaven. But we have their unwavering support, which is a wonderful feeling."

Earlier in the conversation, Reese mentioned how much fun it has been working with Marvel to reunite the Deadpool group at their new home. "It's an incredible feeling," Reese added. "It's an amazing joy to see the band reunited, and to have a new backdrop in the MCU with new characters, villains, and the like. You know, it's never been a marriage we expected to happen—Fox and Disney were an external factor [unrelated] to our creative process. But, or at least, we're trying to locate the serendipity and gold in that circumstance."

Ryan Reynolds, to his credit, seemed to support Shawn Levy directing him in Deadpool 3. "That would be wonderful," Reynolds said in an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com, expressing his support for a Deadpool 3 directed by Levy and starring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. "I recommend writing to Kevin Feige, Marvel Cinematic Universe, at whatever Buena Vista Way address you have. I'm not sure where it is, but it would be good. That would be fantastic. That would be a fantasy realised." Deadpool 3 is currently in development, according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige in August 2021.Levy went into greater detail about his hopes to reunite Jackman and Reynolds for a future project. "I'm not going to reveal where or how," Levy told ComicBook.com, "but I will absolutely confirm my aim and determination to be the lucky son of a bitch who puts those two wonderful gods in the same movie together." "It will happen, and I will be the one to do it."
