Jessica Alba claims that Marvel are 'still quite Caucasian

The MCU has been criticised for being overly white by Jessica Alba, who played Sue Storm in the 2005 film Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel Rise of the Silver Surfer.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has drawn criticism for being "very Caucasian" from a founding member of Fox's Fantastic Four film franchise. The MCU's lack of diversity was discussed by Jessica Alba, who played Sue Storm/Invisible Woman in the 2005 film Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Despite the franchise's widespread popularity, Alba believes that little has changed since the early 2000s, before Marvel Studios was founded.

"Even if you look at the Marvel movies, which are the largest influencer of fantasy and what's going on in entertainment right now since it's sort of the family thing, it's still largely Caucasian", according to Alba.  "I would say I was one of the few back in the day… And it was before Marvel was sold to Disney, but it's still quite more of the same."

The actress continues by saying that she wants to see more characters that represent a new generation of diverse heroes.  As for the future leaders of our country, Alba stated, "I just think it's more essential for the younger people who are coming up to see the world on screen, in stories, in the dreams that we make as entertainers; it mirrors the world that they're in."

Alba's critique comes at a time when the Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded its roster of superheroes that are taken directly from the Marvel Comics. A black superhero was featured in the 2018 film Black Panther, which went on to earn over a billion dollars and garner an Oscar nomination. Since then, Phase 4 has been jam-packed with a variety of MCU projects, including Eternals and Shang-Chi: Legend of the Ten Rings. Additionally, Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson transitioned into becoming the next Captain America in Disney+'s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, setting up a future standalone film.

As part of its MCU roster, Marvel Studios will revive the Fantastic Four, but information on the film is still few. Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic made his MCU debut with John Krasinski playing the role for a cameo appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, even though the roles of Marvel's First Family have not yet been officially cast. When fans backed Alba to reprise the role in the MCU in 2021, the former Sue Storm became a social media sensation.

Fantastic Four from Marvel Studios has no set release date.
