‘Disney’s Gone Very Conservative’: Russo Brothers Explain Disney is Hurting MCU Phase 4 Movies & Shows

One of Marvel's most prominent directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, also known as the Russo Brothers, explains how Disney is to blame for the company's current state. With Marvel's recent movies and shows being panned by critics and audiences alike, it's been a long time since MCU fans saw something spectacular being produced by the studio. Phase 4 of the MCU does not look promising, and the quality of the content produced has also declined.

Marvel under Disney umbrella

The Russo Brothers are one of the MCU's greatest directors, responsible for numerous box-office hits such as Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame, and the last two Captain America films. They've made a name for themselves in the business.

Russo Brothers explain how the Disney Umbrella affects Marvel in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

"But I also think, too, that Disney's gone very conservative. Post-[Bob] Iger, they seem to be in IP management mode. You're going to get all the Star Wars and all the Marvel you can handle for the next decade. They're all changing. It's either a reinforced conservative approach from your traditional studios or it's forcing a tech company like Netflix to rethink its entire model."

With the expansion of Disney+ and Disney's traditional approach focusing on theatre movies. Marvel is a prime example of a hybrid model in operation. With so many Marvel movies and series, fans are now observing a quantity over quality phenomenon in the studio.

Marvel's Projects' Lack of Boldness:

Even though Disney's control over IP benefits the MCU, it cannot be denied that the quality is declining significantly. With Disney's conservative attitude presiding over Marvel's works, the Directors fail to take risks and induce any kind of innovation, and we end up with the same old-school formula-centric superhero movies and shows.

Disney's conservative stance also includes interfering with the creator's creative liberty and exerting control over them. This has a significant impact on the movies, and many fans have commented on how it appears to be a degrading phase rather than an improvement. And now, with other superhero projects like Amazon Prime's The Boys, the House of Mouse needs to understand that if they don't push themselves beyond their comfort zones, no one will remember them in a few years.
