Netflix's The Gray Man Plot, Cast, Trailer, Release date

The Gray Man Plot, cast, trailer, storyline explained

The Gray Man is officially complete, and all we have to do now is wait to see what Netflix's biggest-ever film has in store for us.

If you're not enthusiastic for the film, it's because you haven't seen it yet. The spy thriller reunites Anthony and Joe Russo with Chris Evans, as well as a star-studded cast that includes James Bond, Bridgerton, and other favourites.

The Gray Man, which has a rumoured budget of $200 million, is based on Mark Greaney's 2009 novel of the same name, and it might spawn a new series for the Russos — at least that's the intention.

But, before we go any further, here's all you need to know about The Gray Man.

The Gray Man premiere date: When will The Gray Man be available on Netflix?

We don't yet know when The Gray Man will be released, but if you were hoping for it to come out in 2021, we've got some terrible news for you. Summer 2022 has been set as the release date.On that, we're hard at work in the editorial department.

"I believe we'll be able to lock picture on that in February." We'll be working on some major VFX in it. So score and VFX will go place till the film is released."

The film was shot from March to July 2021, with the European portion of the shoot taking place in Prague, Czech Republic, and Chantilly, France, a sumptuous 19th-century castle near Paris.

Who is in the cast of The Gray Man?

Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans star in the film, with Gosling as Court Gentry, a freelance assassin and former CIA operative (AKA the titular Gray Man).

This is Instagram content that has been imported. You might be able to find the same information in a different format, or more information, on their website.

"We're working on The Gray Man right now with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, set for release this [coming] summer," director Joe Russo stated.

Evans plays Lloyd Hansen, a former CIA colleague of Gentry's who is assigned to track down the Gray Man and plays the villain in the film. "He's a really unique character, and this is Evans as a villain, so it's a really interesting character," the Russo brothers said. "I think he'll get to flex quite a bit in this role."

Evans' Knives Out co-star Ana de Armas, who was last seen in No Time to Die, and Bridgerton breakout star Regé-Jean Page have subsequently joined the trio.

"The weirdest thing about working on a Russo set is that the standards are so ridiculously high for everyone in every area that they don't police you through everything," Page remarked of his experience working on the film.

"'Here's this outrageously difficult thing; do it,' they say. They just assume you'll be able to accomplish it since they don't hire people who can't."

The only other characters we know about are Billy Bob Thornton's portrayal of Gentry's old handler Donald Fitzroy and de Armas' portrayal of Agent Dani Miranda, who aids Gentry in his fight for survival.

Jessica Henwick (The Matrix Resurrections), Wagner Moura, Dhanush, Julia Butters, Alfre Woodard, Eme Ikwuakor, Scott Haze, and DeObia Oparei round out an excellent cast. For the time being, their roles remain unknown.

What is the Plot of The Gray Man about?

Beyond the fundamental hook of it being a "deadly combat between killers," little is known about The Gray Man's plot.

Gentry is sent on a trip across Europe to save his handler Sir Donald Fitzroy from Lloyd, who wants Gentry assassinated in order to complete a billion-dollar oil transaction in Nigeria. However, it's uncertain if the film would be a straight adaptation or will incorporate themes from the remainder of the book series.

Mark Greaney's series currently has ten books, and we already know that the Russos want to turn The Gray Man into an MCU-style series, with Gosling returning for future films.

"What we're doing on Gray Man that's unique is... we're not going to answer every question in the first film," Joe Russo explained.

"This is being planned as a series of films, and we may expand out and follow other characters, but we won't be able to address every question in the film." So you'll end the film and have a complete plot, but you'll still have doubts about the rest of the universe.

"And I believe that not giving the viewers everything in one film is one way to disrupt the model a little bit." There isn't a conclusion to the story. Have a story that is open-ended, like a chapter in a book."

Of course, it will depend on if The Gray Man is a big enough blockbuster for Netflix to justify more films, and even if it is, the Russos have stated that they "love to bring fresh voices in."

"We have two huge movie stars going against each other to the tradition of like De Niro and Pacino in Heat," Russo said, comparing the picture to the legendary action-thriller Heat. This is a high-octane action movie.

"Both actors deliver really entertaining performances, and they're pitted against each other in the film. Chris Evans as the villain gives a brilliantly sociopathic performance. It's extremely enjoyable to watch him [play a good psychopath]. So I expect it to be a lot of fun."

Is there any Trailer of The Gray Man available yet?

Even though the film is wrapped, don't anticipate a trailer until june 2022, as Netflix rarely releases trailers for its original films months in advance.

The Gray Man is releasing on 15 July 2022.
