Zac Efron wants to Join Marvel Universe

Zac Efron was one of a generation of performers that rose to prominence thanks to his portrayal as Troy Bolton in High School Musical, which launched his career. Currently, the American actor is seen in more mature films such as Stephen King's Firestarter and Hugh Jackman's hit musical The Greatest Showman.

Efron has become a fan favourite for a number of Marvel and DC roles over the years, including Adam Warlock, Human Torch, and Nova. The Disney star was reportedly used as a template by Marvel Studios when casting Adam Warlock for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a role that went to Will Poulter in the end.

Zac Efron has thrown his hat in the ring for a superhero role as Marvel Studios continues to improve its casting game as the universe expands with the arrival of teams like the Eternals, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four.

Zac Efron Is Interested in Joining the MCU

Zac Efron expressed interest in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe during a recent interview with Extra TV, where he was promoting his new film Firestarter.

When questioned about his interest in playing a Marvel superhero amid fan speculation that he could join the MCU, the High School Musical star expressed his excitement, adding that "if the perfect role comes along," he would "leap at the chance:"

"The Marvel universe is one of my favourites. I've been a Marvel fan since I was able to walk. I would leap at the chance to play the appropriate character if the right one came along."

Who Could Zac Efron Play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

For years, Zac Efron has been a fan favourite to join the MCU, and it appears that he's as excited to play a Marvel hero as fans are to see him in the franchise. Given his celebrity and relationship with Disney, it's surprising he hasn't yet portrayed a superhero, but that could change soon.

According to reports, Marvel Studios was looking for a Zac Efron-like actor to play Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which they found in Will Poulter. Despite serving as the motivation for the heroic casting, it's unknown whether Efron was ever considered for the part before Poulter was chosen.

Moving forward, there are a slew of new heroes set to join the MCU in the near future, all of whom Zac Efron would be an excellent pick to play. The Disney actor had been a popular fan cast for Johnny Storm, nicknamed Human Torch, in Fantastic Four for many years, but at 32 years old, he may be a little bit old for the role.

Heroes like Nova from Richard Rider's Nova and Cyclops from the X-Men may now be more suited for Efron. Given his normal facial hair, acting ability, and imposing size, the actor might even be able to offer a unique take on Wolverine in the MCU, one that is vastly different from Hugh Jackman's. Granted, the competition for the role of Wolverine in the MCU is fierce, with both Daniel Radcliffe and Taron Egerton throwing their heads in the ring.

Zac Efron's next film will be the sci-fi horror Firestarter, which will be released on May 13 in theatres.
