Shang-Chi Star Simu Liu Opens Up About Autograph Harassment Incident

Simu Liu, star of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, spoke out about being hounded by an autograph hunter recently. The Marvel Cinematic Universe star shared a snapshot of the suspect in their vehicle on his personal Twitter account, detailing his ordeal. "Best photo I could grab," says Liu's description, "but these professional autograph hunters followed us out of the Philly event and then dumped soda on our glass." "They immediately dashed to their car and removed the front licence plate, making it impossible for us to identify them." Liu goes on to say that someone in the audience was able to photograph the occurrence and that he intends to make an official report with the police.


"Look, I'm trying to have a real moment with my audience," Liu continued. "If you come to my events and harass me or make me or my fans uncomfortable, there's no chance in hell I'm going to sign for you. Don't cross that line."

This isn't the first time Liu has spoken out against trolls hoping to get his autograph. Due to the offensive content of the Master of King Fu comics, the Kim's Convenience star stated in early 2022 that he would not be signing any of them. These comics contain many outdated cultural prejudices, while being some of Shang-first Chi's appearances in the Marvel Universe.

In 2021, Liu's portrayal in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings received rave acclaim from both fans and reviewers. While the film was a huge hit for Marvel Studios, it's unclear when fans will have another chance to meet Shang-Chi, but a sequel is confirmed to be in the works with an as-yet-unknown release date. It's just so satisfying to feel the motor revving and think to yourself, "Wow, wonderful, now we get to tell more stories, go deeper into the characters, and hopefully deliver more of those amazing combat sequences." "When questioned about his feelings about the future Shang-Chi film, Liu stated.

While no narrative specifics for the forthcoming Shang-Chi film have been published, Liu has claimed that he has some huge plans for the character's next journey. "Another significant question I have is how Shaun fits into the MCU as a whole. What kind of person are you going to see?" Liu inquired. "What type of weird mash-ups are you talking about? Easter eggs, what kind of tie-ins? I'm in the dark just like everyone else, so I have no idea what's going on, but I'm thrilled to get started."

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is available on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD and is now streaming on Disney+.
