Chadwick Boseman receives a posthumous Emmy nomination for ‘What If…?’
The tragic death of Black Panther's T'Challa actor Chadwick Boseman two years ago shook the Marvel Cinematic Universe. T'Challa will not return to the MCU in Wakanda Forever due to the tragic loss of the Marvel legend, but fans were treated to one last appearance from the actor in What If...? Episode 2, "What If... T'Challa Became A Star-Lord?"
In place of Peter Quill, Yondu and the Ravagers abducted a variant of Boseman's T'Challa as a child from Wakanda. The T'Challa Variant went on to become Star-Lord himself, and he was able to persuade Thanos that there was a better way to save the universe than erasing half of humanity.

T'Challa later reappeared in the Season 1 finale, teaming up with Captain Carter, Doctor Strange Supreme, and the Guardians of the Multiverse to defeat Infinity Ultron. Following his What If...? debut, Marvel Studios was even planning a Disney+ spin-off starring T'Challa and his motley crew.
Fans praised the actor's vocal performance, and he has now received a posthumous nomination for the 2022 Emmy Awards.

The intention to create a spin-off for the T'Challa Variant shows that Marvel Studios was blown away by his What If...? performance. After all, of the seven main heroes introduced in Season 1, he is the only one who, as far as the public is aware, has a spin-off in the works.
Only time will tell whether Boseman wins an award for his performance in What If...? The winners of the 2022 Emmy Awards will be announced at the official ceremony on Tuesday, September 13.
