Charlie Cox 'Really Pushed Back' on This Daredevil: Born Again Episode, Saying 'I Wasn't into It'

Charlie Cox stated he didn't enjoy Daredevil: Born Again's sixth episode. He claimed the plot had flaws and the story was incorrect. He was clearly off target, as evidenced by the audience's reaction.

Daredevil: Born. Again, it appeared completely consistent with heist storylines; it's simple to see Matt Murdock going undercover to prevent a bank robbery, but series star Charlie Cox disagreed. Speaking with The Playlist, he admitted that he tried to scrap Episode 5's story because he thought it was outdated.

"I don't believe in a bank heist in 2025," he asserted. "That feels like a 1970s game. Too much technology these days for that to work… I wasn't into it. I didn't like it. It was my least favorite of the episodes, and I kind of pushed back against it as much as I felt was possible."

"With Interest" proved to be a fan favorite Born Again episode. If Cox had lasted, it would have been eliminated from Season 1 (or significantly changed). "I didn't think the actual device used for the theft was sophisticated enough," he explained, referring to the criminals' smoke grenade. "With Interest" was an effective bottle episode that stood apart from the show's overall narrative. It also demonstrated that Matt Murdock is just as shrewd without the suit. Cox stated that Episode 5 was part of the original Season 1 lineup prior to the creative makeover. 'I Really Pushed Back on the Episode' So, he was likely opposed to the story before Marvel hired Dario Scardapane as showrunner.

"I really pushed back on the episode, and yet I hear from so many people that they love that episode," Cox found himself saying. "It just goes to show that you don't know." It's quite subjective. Everyone has different tastes. And I've heard that episode is among the best-rated. Internally, when they do their ratings, it's one of the highest-rated Disney shows ever." That is consistent with Born Again's Rotten Tomatoes score (87% critics, 80% audience consensus). Cox praised the creative directors for establishing their viewpoint through the redesign. The actor confirmed that the initial tone of Born Again was not as gloomy and serious as the Netflix episode.

"We had discovered that it was a hit. That struck a chord with many, especially these characters. So it felt stupid to almost go backwards, as it were, and we were always clear about what we were trying to do." Cox suggested that Season 2, which is now filming, will improve on one component of the initial series that was underdeveloped: the larger ensemble. "I do not want to oversell it. "I believe it's some of the best writing we've ever had on this show," he continued.

Daredevil: Born Again is available on Disney+.
