Dave Bautista Says Goodbye to Marvel Drax Role

Dave Bautista is already saying goodbye to his Marvel Cinematic Universe role as Drax ahead of the threequel, even though Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is anticipated to be the final adventure for this iteration of the Guardians team.

As Drax, Bautista has long hinted that he will leave the MCU.

The actor previously made a suggestion that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is "probably going to be the end" of the story arc for his character and that it will be his last appearance under the terms of his Marvel contract.

The WWE Legend also discussed how portraying Drax affected his life in an Instagram post that included the hashtag "#GoodbyeDrax."

Dave Bautista Bids Goodbye to Guardians of the Galaxy

Dave Bautista discussed his role as Drax in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy in the most recent GQ interview, and he also expressed his acceptance of the possibility that this will be his final depiction of the character.

Having worked with Drax for nine years, six films, and a holiday special on Disney+, Bautista is saying goodbye.

While acknowledging his gratitude for having the opportunity to perform the role, Bautista noted that there is a sense of "relief" that the experience is ended because the makeup application process "it wasn't all pleasant".

Additionally, Bautista stated that he is unsure if he wants Drax to be his legacy. The former WWE champion stated that he would rather to "to do more dramatic stuff:"

"I'm so grateful for Drax. I love him. But there's a relief [that it's over]. It wasn't all pleasant. It was hard playing that role. The makeup process was beating me down. And I just don't know if I want Drax to be my legacy - it's a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff."

It took months of repeated auditions for Disney before Bautista finally got the part of Drax. This is in addition to the stories about greater names with whom he allegedly competed for the role.

In a statement, Bautista said that he received the news that he would be playing the Marvel superhero while driving to the gym. The actor reflected on the emotional moment: "I had to pull over because I was crying so hard. Turned right back around and walked into my house shaking to tell my wife I had gotten the role, and we were both standing there freaking out."

Did Dave Bautista Just Spoil Drax's Fate in Vol. 3?

The tearjerking trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has fans speculating that at least one team member will pass away in the sequel. James Gunn, the director of Marvel, also acknowledged that "not all" of the Guardians will live to see the movie's conclusion.

Despite widespread speculation that Rocket Racoon will die first, Dave Bautista's most recent remarks imply that Drax's story will come to an end in Vol. 3.

Even while it seems like a straight-up spoiler, saying farewell to Drax could suggest that the character may not actually die, particularly in light of the fact that he is outright divulging this information. At the conclusion of Vol. 3, Drax might resign from his position as a Guardian rather than passing away tragically.

It's hardly surprising, though, that Bautista said he was pleased to no longer play Drax after revealing that putting on the makeup is "just a nightmare" for him.

Although it's natural that Bautista is relieved to be leaving the role of Drax, there's no doubting that his interpretation of the character will always be remembered by Marvel fans everywhere.

On Friday, May 5, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will make its theatrical debut.
