Disney+ Marvel Series ‘Echo’ Begins Production, Reveals First Look

Your latest Marvel TV passion is about to be exposed in front of the cameras. Hawkeye introduced Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop to the MCU last winter, as well as setting up Alaqua Cox's Maya Lopez for her own spinoff. Maya is set to take centre stage in Echo, which has now entered production in Marvel Studios' frequent home of Atlanta, Georgia, ahead of its arrival on Disney Plus next year. Maya is inspired by the comics character of the same name.

The House of Ideas has released this first look at Cox's homecoming, along with the good news that filming has commenced.

The image, which you can see below, shows Cox's heroine hiding out on the back of a truck, which perfectly captures the show's grounded, street-wise attitude, which it shares with both Hawkeye and Daredevil, with whom it's intended to share DNA.

Lopez was introduced in Hawkeye as the leader of the Tracksuit Mafia, a position she assumed after her father was assassinated by Ronin (really Hawkeye himself, Clint Barton). We then learned that she was Wilson Fisk's loving niece, with Vincent D'Onofrio repeating his role from Daredevil. Maya got her revenge on her uncle after learning that he orchestrated the hit on her father by maybe shooting him in the face.

Fans believe D'Onofrio may reprise his role as Kingpin in Echo, possibly with Charlie Cox's hero - Matt Murdock and Maya are lovers in the comics - because of their intimate relationship to the character. However, none is featured in today's cast list. Chaske Spencer (Banshee), Tantoo Cardinal (Wind River), Devery Jacobs (Reservation Dogs), Cody Lightning (Run Woman Run), Graham Greene (The Green Mile), and Zahn McClarnon (William Lopez from Hawkeye) will all be officially joining Cox (Alaqua) on Echo.

Echo will premiere on Disney Plus sometime in 2023, directed by Sydney Freeland and Catriona McKenzie. Ms. Marvel, which will premiere on June 8, is the next Marvel show to be released on streaming.
