Marvel’s Kevin Feige Says Tom Cruise’s Iron Man Was Never an Option

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness opened to great acclaim in theatres this week, giving fans the opportunity to see all of the cameos hinted in the film's teaser trailers and posters.

Tom Cruise Iron Man Marvel

While many of them were pleased to see figures like Sir Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier return, others had high hopes, hoping to see Hollywood icon Tom Cruise, who was reported to be playing a variation of Tony Stark aka Iron Man.

Many "leaks" in the months preceding up to the release suggested that the actor will appear in the Doctor Strange sequel to reprise the role that he was offered by Marvel a few decades before it was handed to Robert Downey Jr. The majority of these reports stated that Cruise would play the Superior version, who would also be an Illuminati member.

'There's Still a Long Way to Go,' Tom Hiddleston Says of Loki's Bisexuality.

For the past few months, neither Marvel nor the actor has mentioned Superior Iron Man's likely presence in the film. However, Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron confirmed in a recent Rolling Stones interview that the casting was a fan-created rumour with no basis.

"That was all made up. There's no cut footage of Tom Cruise, for example!"

However, Waldron also stated that he had plans to cast Tom Cruise as Iron Man and had already spoken with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige about it.

"I adore Tom Cruise, and I once inquired of Kevin Feige, "Could we get Tom Cruise's Iron Man?" Back in the day, I remember reading in Ain't It Cool News that Tom Cruise was going to play Iron Man."

However, because to scheduling conflicts with his work on Mission Impossible 7 and 8, the studio never approached the actor about joining Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

"No, I don't think so. Because of availability, I don't believe it was ever a possibility."

In the end, it's interesting to remember that Marvel had plans to include Cruise in the film, even if they never came to fruition.

However, it raises the possibility of the actor donning the suit in a future MCU film, and fans would love to see him portray the millionaire genius.
