Scarlet Scarab: Moon Knight Final Episode Introduced a new Marvel Superhero

Moon Knight is the latest in a long line of Marvel heroes to get his own Disney+ show, but he wasn't the only nighttime vigilante to make his debut. Viewers were able to follow Oscar Isaac as he played two of Moon Knight's identities, Steven Grant and Marc Spector. Marc Spector wasn't the only one working to thwart Arthur Harrow and Ammit's wicked plans. Marc's wife, Layla El-Faouly (May Calamawy), showed herself a strong warrior and deserving of being an avatar for the Egyptian god Taweret by transforming into the superhero Scarlet Scarab.

Fans expected at least one unexpected Marvel guest star in Moon Knight, whether it was Blade or Dane Whitman/Black Knight. In the end, Layla's new heroic alter persona Scarlet Scarab was the only backup Moon Knight required to take down Harrow and Ammit. This development puts Moon Knight in the company of other Marvel properties such as Captain America and Ant-Man, in which our lead hero has a partner who is equally capable of battling alongside them. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Cap had Sam Wilson/Falcon, who would later accept the mantle of Captain America. Ant-Man possesses the Wasp, and in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in 2023, the two of them will face Kang the Conqueror.

Scarlet Scarab will very certainly accompany Moon Knight whenever and wherever he appears next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, whether it's in the second season of his Disney+ series or as part of a broader ensemble effort on the big or small screen. The two would make a formidable team against any threat. Layla and the Scarlet Scarab could also feature in Marvel's Moon Knight ongoing series, which is written by Jed MacKay and illustrated by Alessandro Cappuccio.

Scarlet Scarab collaborating with other heroes might also be entertaining.Fans have adored Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova together, so why not add a third woman to the mix of badasses? Scarlet Scarab might bring some much-needed diversity to the Midnight Sons/Suns concept if it ever comes to fruition.

Calamawy was conceived as a female equivalent to Isaac's Marc Spector by director and executive producer Mohamed Diab and consultant producer Sara Goher. "She was in the presentation while we were putting [together our pitch," Goher told Marvel.com. "We knew deep down that we wanted someone like her to play this part. And then, once we got her on board, she simply contributed everything she had, and I'm overjoyed ""Layla," she says.

It was crucial for Goher and Calamawy to include an Egyptian hero in the MCU, especially since they are both Egyptians. Calamawy admits, however, that it was a difficult responsibility, saying, "I had to really sit with it and be like, I can't represent every Arab woman or every Egyptian woman... I just hope that all Arab women can watch it and feel like Super Heroes, and that they have that kind of platform."

"I hope that individuals who can relate to Layla feel seen and excited, and that people who can't, that's OK," she continued. There is enough room for everyone. I'm the very first. There may be many more to come. It's a privilege.Just to be able to represent or be Middle Eastern and cast a light on that place is an honour."
