The Boys Makes Fun of Morbius’ Embarrassing Re-Release Flop

The boys season 3

The Boys, which is only four episodes into its third season, has already crammed its latest segments with pop culture references, and the tendency is even spilling over into real-world marketing. The Amazon Original series is a dark parody of a world where superheroes are controlled by corporate giants and perverted toward evil due to their power, drawing inspiration from both Marvel and DC.

Not only are the heroes of The Boys led toward their activities by their corporate rulers, but sponsorships, marketing, and approval points drive them as well. The Seven, the universe's most powerful superhero squad, is the face of Vought International's heroes, appearing in ads, reality TV shows, and big-screen films showcasing their exploits. The super-powered squad recently starred in Dawn of the Seven, a fictional movie based on Batman v Superman, Avengers: Endgame's poster, and Justice League's origin tale.

Aside from that, the latest season of The Boys poked fun at all aspects of pop culture, and now it's Morbius' turn.

Sony's Morbius Failure is mocked by The Boys.

Morbius is mocked by The Boys

The official Vought International Twitter account of the Boys mocked Sony for its botched re-release of Morbius. The message was accompanied with a photo showing Homelander, Starlight, Queen Maeve, Black Noir, and A-Train on the set of Dawn of the Seven, an in-universe superhero film.

The promotional code "ITS-MAEVIN-TIME," a play on the ubiquitous "It's Morbin' Time" meme, was used by Vought International to promote Dawn of the Seven's theatrical re-release.

"#DawnOfTheSeven is back! Despite still being in theaters, we heard all of your tweets and will be re-releasing the film this week! Don’t miss your chance to re-live all the action: use code ITS-MAEVIN-TIME to get a discount on your second ticket until June 30."

Morbius was recently re-released into theatres while it was still playing on screens in several places, following a dismal box office run and internet meme, only to see it suffer a second time around.

The Boys Continue to Make Fun of Popular Culture

The Boys has always been a satire of the Marvel and DC universes, attempting to provide a more realistic depiction of what a society populated by super-humans would look like. In the most recent season, Amazon certainly stepped up its game in terms of more direct references, and this Morbius-directed post is just the latest evidence of that.

Vought International can only hope that Dawn of the Seven's re-release of Morbius isn't a precursor to ill things for its fictional film. Despite the fact that Morbius barely made $300,000 during its re-release weekend, a petition has gone viral asking Sony to bring the Marvel adventure back to theatres for a third time.

Amazon is far from the first corporation to make fun of Morbius; KFC and GFUEL were among the first to do so. "It's Maevin' Time" is a smart parody of the popular "It's Morbin' Time" jokes, in which Dominique McElligott's Queen Maeve, The Boys' Wonder Woman substitute, replaces Jared Leto's Marvel vampire.

The Boys is now available on Amazon Prime Video, while Morbius continues to dominate social media.
