John Boyega Rejects Marvel for Now: I Want ‘Fresh Ideas’ and You Can’t Top ‘Iron Man’ Anyway

It's difficult to go two or three months without coming across an online rumour stating John Boyega will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A 2021 rumour said Boyega was involved in the "Captain Marvel" sequel "The Marvels," while an unverified story from May claimed Boyega had already shot a secret Marvel role. In a recent interview with Men's Health, Boyega has dispelled those claims, claiming that he is not now interested in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Boyega stated of Marvel movies, "That's not in the picture for me right now." "I want to take sophisticated actions... I want to donate my talents to independent films with fresh, innovative ideas because I know how difficult it will be to top "Iron Man" in that genre.

Boyega's agent, Femi Oguns, told the media that Boyega has always wanted "to disrupt the industry and also to make history" as an actor. He continued, "For John, it was never about trying to fit into the box. He aspires to be the box's outline.

Boyega has deliberately shunned roles like drug dealers and slaves in order to "disrupt" the system for Black actors. "For John, it's all about accountability," Oguns continued. He rejects the idea of being categorised by archetypal roles.

Boyega's performance as Finn in three "Star Wars" films would make joining Marvel his second Disney-backed series; however, the actor is now concentrating on independent films. Boyega co-stars with Viola Davis in the epic battle film "The Woman King," which Sony Pictures releases in theatres on September 16 in addition to his Sundance thriller "Breaking," which debuts on August 26.
