Game of Thrones is currently attracting a larger audience than House of the Dragon
According to data on viewership, House of the Dragon's prequel, House of the Dragon, is currently losing viewers to Game of Thrones on streaming.
In terms of viewership, Game of Thrones presently outperforms House of the Dragon. According to Variety, between August 22 and August 28, which included the first week of Episode 1's availability and some of Episode 2's availability, House of the Dragon placed sixth on the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 ranking. More specifically, during that time the first two episodes received a total of 741 million viewing minutes. That information only refers to the HBO Max streaming service; it excludes the debut of House of the Dragon on the HBO channel. The show is reportedly averaging 29 million views per episode and reportedly debuted to roughly 10 million viewers overall across all platforms.

But with more than 909 million viewing minutes over that time, Game of Thrones actually ranked third on that same chart. Game of Thrones defeated House of the Dragon with 73 streaming episodes, which was attributed to the prequel's release reviving interest in the series.
Otherwise, Netflix consistently ranked at the top of the list of streaming services. There were 1,123 million minutes earned by Echos, 971 million minutes by Me Time, 890 million minutes by Strange Things, 770 million minutes by NCIS, and 681 million minutes by The Sandman.
A Tale of Two Fantasy Series
Based on the works of fantasy author George R.R. Martin are the television shows Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. The former was made by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, and it made its HBO debut in 2011. The eight-season series chronicled the struggle of several families and individuals for dominance over Westeros' Seven Kingdoms and Iron Throne. Although the sitcom received favourable reviews when it first debuted, later seasons received more criticism than praise. Nevertheless, Game of Thrones continued to draw huge audiences throughout its duration.

HBO started developing other shows set in the same world after Game of Thrones ended. The first of those programmes to air was House of the Dragon, which centres on House Targaryen 172 years before Daenerys Targaryen was born. A Jon Snow-focused follow-up series is also being developed by HBO.
HBO Max now offers streaming access to all eight seasons of Game of Thrones. On Sundays, new episodes of House of the Dragon are made available. Co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik will serve as the director of the upcoming episode, "The Princess and the Queen."
